RPMI-1640

Features:

RPMI-1640 is originally designed specifically for lymphocyte culture, and now is widely used in the culture of all kinds of normal cells and cancer cells, especially suspension cells, and is one of the most widely used media.
RPMI refers to Roswell Park Memorial Institute. RPMI-1640 medium was originally developed to culture human leukemic cells in suspension and as a monolayer. RPMI-1640 medium is unique from other media because it contains reducing glutathione and high concentrations of vitamins. RPMI-1640 medium contains biotin, vitamin B12 and para-aminobenzoic acid, which are not found in Eagle’s Minimum Essential Medium or Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium. In addition, inositol and choline are present in very high concentrations. Hygia’s RPMI-1640 media preparations are available with glucose or no glucose formulations, as well as with or without L-glutamine and sodium pyruvate. Hygia’s RPMI-1640 media include phenol red as a pH indicator. All available RPMI-1640 media products contain a sodium bicarbonate buffer with or without HEPES to maintain optimal culture pH.
RPMI-1640 medium has been found suitable for a variety of mammalian cells, including Hela, Juukat, MCF-7, PC-12, PBMC, astrocytes, and carcinomas. RPMI-1640 contains no proteins, lipids, or growth factors. Therefore, DMEM requires supplementation, commonly with 10% Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS). RPMI-1640 uses a sodium bicarbonate buffer system (2.0 g/L) and therefore requires a 5–10% CO2 environment to maintain physiological pH.
All raw material components used for Hygia cell culture media products are screened through using strict quality control testing. Hygia cell culture media are manufactured at a cGMP-compliant facility using water for injection, filtered through final 0.1 μm sterile filtration and aseptic filled in a Hundred-stage FFU. The filter integrity tests are performed before and after filtration. Each lot of cell culture media is subjected to sterility test, pH, osmolality, and cell culture test.
